From January 31 to February 11, 2009, the VNF led a study tour to the U.S. for a delegation from the University of Technology and Management (UTM), a newly established private university in Vietnam.
The purpose of the trip was to study methods of managing and administering a private university, and to seek academic support from educational institutions in the U.S. VNF arranged UTM leaders to work with the U.S. National Academies, Rice University, Stanford University, and the University of California, Irvine. Additionally, VNF met with several potential donors, who are board members at American universities. As a result of the trip, the delegation gained an understanding of the non-profit model, in which a university is established through contributors rather than investors.
